Transportation Research Board (TRB) 2024

UMTIG was pleased to be represented at the Transportation Research Board (TRB) Annual Meeting in Washington, DC which took place January 7–11, 2024 by Phani Kumar Patnala, Maryam Ghaffari Dolama, Michael Olfert, Navoda Rillagodage, Babak Mehran, and Jonathan Regehr.

Navoda Rillagodage presented a poster ‘A Binary Logit Model to Assess Safe Speed for Trucks in Adverse Road-Weather Conditions’ co-authored by Homa Motavallian Naeini.   Maryam Ghaffari Dolama was awarded the 2024 Art Worth Railway Engineering Conference Award, annually funded award at the University of Manitoba to provide travel support to students interested in pursuing a career in the railway industry to attend annual engineering conferences.   Maryam used this award to attend the TRB Annual Meeting where she presented a poster and represented UMTIG as a member of the Highway/Rail Grade Crossing Committee.

Congratulations to Julian Carneiro on Successful Defense of Master’s Thesis

On December 18, 2023, Julian Carneiro successfully defended his M.Sc. thesis entitled “Applying Signal Processing Techniques to Characterize Rail Corrugation, Noise, and Vibration”. Dr. Ian Jeffrey and Dr. Jonathan Regehr co-supervised Julian’s research. A special thanks to Dr. Sherif Sherif and Dr. Babak Mehran for serving on the Examining Committee. Julian’s research was generously supported by the National Research Council of Canada and Advanced Rail Management (Canada).
