Research Title:

Network designing for hazardous materials transportation

Biography:

Musharraf A. Khan is currently serving as a Postdoctoral fellow at the Department of Civil Engineering, University of Manitoba, Canada. Mr. Khan is eagerly and passionately curious about Network Science, driven by an insatiable thirst for understanding the intricacies of complex networks and their practical applications. Currently, he is involved in studying network design problem for hazardous freight.

With a relentless pursuit of excellence, Mr. Khan has embarked on a transformative journey in the field of transportation.  During his Ph.D. research, Mr. Khan focused on developing innovative methodologies to optimize and rank hazardous materials facility siting, taking into account transportation preferences and risk. By leveraging graph and network theories, he explored routing evaluation methods, multi-objective optimization and routing-location problems. His investigations have also delved into network vulnerability, route resilience, integrated network and spatial analysis, and application of algorithms in finding critical network elements.

At present, Mr. Khan is channeling his expertise towards the development of cutting-edge AI-based methods. These methods aim to extract feasible subnetworks, thereby enabling the augmentation of viable routing choices within complex, large-scale networks.

In addition to the research background, Mr. Khan brings a decade of diversified expertise in transportation, including transportation planning, transit operations, and project management. He achieved recognizable certifications such as professional transportation planner (PTP®) and project management professional (PMP®). Throughout his career, he has showcased his ability to navigate the complexities of these domains, helping in the successful execution of transportation projects and delivering impactful solutions.
